The California walnut harvest season has wrapped up. Due to irregular weather during last winter and spring, the total volume for the 2024 harvest will be approximately 526,000 MT, with a carry- in of 86,000 MT; however, overall quality for the 2024/25 crop looks very good. Early sales have been very brisk due to low inventories in all major markets. This is attributed to a low Chilean 2024 harvest, strong global sales for the last two years, and overall improved economic conditions supporting increased demand. Due to low global inventories of premium walnuts, pricing for California walnuts has been increasing since the summer. Looking ahead, we have received record rains and heavy snow, and cool/cold night temperatures setting up the 2025/26 crop in the right direction. Since 2024 was an alternating low production year, we anticipate a normal size crop for 2025. Due to the current brisk demand combined with the low production, we will sell through the entire 2024 crop by Sept 2025. With minimal carry-in, we will be able to ship fresh new crop by mid/ late October.
